Baracknophobia - Obey

I am a big news junkie. I love reading the newspaper every morning. I can talk to you about most current world events (current events meaning international politics and world events. I try not to pay attention to weird domestic news like parents killing their children, etc.). I usually have an open mind, and feel I'm able to see both sides on multiple issues.

I've watched a number of people and friends become extremely passionate, for good and bad, about President Obama's politics. I found this clip, while an admittedly biased opinion, but one that still rings true. A change in government does not necessarily and change in domestic policies does not equate to tyranny. This is a pretty fair assessment of how politics work. We don't always agree with what our leaders do, but we always have the ability to elect new ones. If you don't like a policy, elect a new leader. But don't go around spewing talk about rebellion. That's ridiculous, and is only going to ruin our country for everyone, and not just for the liberals.

It especially concerns me how fanatically passionate people are becoming about taxes. Taxes are not necessarily a bad thing, and we need a certain amount of taxation to keep our country, states and municipalities running. What is the right amount can be argued and that is fine to be debated. However, I personally would rather pay higher taxes than my children. If we don't increase taxes at all, our nation is going to fall apart. If you're irritated about unkempt streets, then because all of the state have budgets that don't have enough money.

Here's another clip I found interesting about taxation:

Taxation without representation means that you are unable to participate in the democratic process of electing leaders, not that your leaders don't do what you want them to do. All Americans have the ability to participate in the political process, however some choose not to. We do not always have to agree with what our leaders do, and that's fine.

Please don't start any treasonous anti-government hate groups. Let's do our best to keep our political parties from becoming "anti-everyone else" or "anti-anything Republican/Democrat" hate groups. Let's work more towards understanding and respecting other people's views, and not closing our minds to valid ideas.

amen! i'm kind of with you on taxes. yeah, no one likes paying them but where is the money supposed to come from? people expect the government to take care of us when we run ourselves into an economic mess but when the government tries to help, people say they have no representation.
